It is my second year living here, and I've booked for next year too. I don't know why the reviews are so bad because this place is fantastic compared to other places I've seen and heard about. If you want the standard of a 5 star hotel then know that Premier Inn is 10 mins away. Whenever I've had a problem, both staff members have been there to help and whenever something broke, Valerie has been there within a day. Yes, the mattresses are uncomfortable and the beds could be of better quality (reason why I gave 4 stars) but with a mattress topper the issue is solved and yes, things do break or stop working every now and again. I happily recommend this place :-)

At the start of the year, Kentish house had no hot water for weeks which really impacted on the way I viewed living here. However, Urban Life gave us a discount for the inconvenience which was a nice gesture. The quick responses from enquiries shows how organised Urban Life are. The facilities are good for the price, however not having a hoover in each flat or even each floor is inconvenient. I would have expected this. I also had to buy a kettle because one wasn't provided in the kitchen. Unfortunately there isn't a window in our kitchen which really does have an impact when cooking in there, I did ask for the extractor fan to be fixed, however this has not happened yet. Urban Life also has free parking which is fantastic and I would be very very happy if it could stay like this. I would also like to thank the two ladies who empty our bins and hoover our flat every Monday and the Urban Staff who always smile and say hello. Overall Urban Life is value for money with regards to the double bed, ensuite, storage in each room, free parking, free and fast wifi, being right near Asda/Lidl and the staff. The only let down is not having a window in our kitchen (which I know cannot be added) a hoover in each flat and going without hot water for a month.

Even though the installations were generally okay, there were several technical problems throughout the year: we did not have hot water for a month early in the winter (which resulted in constantly getting sick due to cold showers); and sometimes we had no water during the summer; there's a huge hole in one of the outside walls; the elevator was not working for most of the year; the fire alarm rang almost every week (even late at night); etc. I also had several problems with some of the other residents, as they were generally disrespectful of other people: some of them are extremely loud at night (I had lots of sleepless nights because of this) and dirty (huge mess in the kitchen/common areas). Even though the managers were generally nice, they did not really do much to solve these problems (their only solution seems to be moving people around). On a final note, this place is not that close to the University of Kent (around 45 min transportation), which considering the price is not really worth it. Overall, I was not happy living in these situations, so I would not really recommend living here (unless you don't actually mind these kind of problems).

I'm staying for a year (only due to contract) and I am quite disappointed with Canterbury Student Village. There were several problems over the past few months, such as having no hot water for over a month! The cleaning staff does a terrible job in cleaning the shared facilities, and since the other residents make 0 effort on cleaning, the kitchen is always disgusting. Also, the community in general is very loud, which makes it very hard to sleep... Also, the constant fire alarms going off does not help - very frequent and annoying. Overall, this place is totally overpriced due to all the problems. I would not recommend it to anyone else.
