At the weekend, treat yourself to a lie in, then roll out of bed and pull on your trainers to start your day with a walk or a bike ride at Gordon Park. Amble down to East Side Green Market to pick up locally grown fruit and vegetables or choose some art works to decorate your student digs. At lunchtime, explore Milwaukee’s booming healthy eating scene with a chicken pine nut salad at Beans and Barley or an Invincibility or Hangover Destroyer cold-press from Juiced! Keep up the good work after you’ve refuelled with a class at East Side Pilates.
In the afternoon, head over to Annie’s Vintage Clothing and Rarities and browse the rails for a one-of-a-kind piece or just check out the shop’s unique décor, which features oil paintings of the neighborhood by Milwaukee artist Mike Fredrickson. Later, make the most of your proximity to Lake Michigan and rent a kayak or play volleyball with fellow students on the shore in Lake Park.
When evening comes, Milwaukee has enough options to keep everybody happy, whether you favour some culture with the spellbinding Milwaukee Ballet or a play at the Downer Theater, or a more low-key evening with some Belgian beers with friends at Café Hollander. When you’re ready to eat, try something different with the Korean bibimbap from Stone Bowl Grill, slurp some noodles at Thai-Namite or take your pick from the many other diverse restaurant options available in your neighborhood.
