It won’t take you long to realise that living in Norman automatically makes you a Sooner fan. Whether you’re watching football games at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, or basketball at Lloyd Norman Center, you won’t want to miss the big games. On game days, the town’s awash with crimson and cream, ready to celebrate team victories. Watch baseball at L Dale Mitchell Baseball Park, or soak up the atmosphere watching on the big screen in local bars like O’Connells Irish Pub.
Don’t worry, there’s plenty to do when the Sooners aren’t playing. Walk by some of the oldest buildings in the state on historic downtown streets, stopping to shop or visit galleries, like MAINSITE Contemporary Art. Drop into the town’s museums like Fred Jones Jnr Museum of Art, where you can see the latest student exhibition, or join a guided tour of the permanent collection. Afterwards, take your seat to watch a captivating performance at the historic Sooner Theater.
Take a trip to Sooner Mall to browse big department stores like Sears. Or take your books to one of the town’s cafés and sit reading over a brew. Head to Gray Owl Coffee where you can get cosy and enjoy artwork on the walls, staying late into the evening to finish off that big assignment. With your college work all up to date, you can always go on a day trip south to hike, fish and explore the stunning landscape of Arbuckle Country. Or drive half an hour north for a day out in Oklahoma City.
