Playing host to some of the oldest buildings in Texas, outdoor food parks and hip art complexes, there’s always something to fill your time in San Antonio. Explore the city’s five historic Spanish Missions, including the legendary Alamo, or have your picture taken by the giant cowboy boots outside the North Star Mall. In the evening, catch a show within the fairy-tale like space of the Majestic Theater.
Start with a slap-up breakfast at Pancake Joe’s, before taking in the breathtaking view of the city from the top of the Tower of the Americas. Pay a visit to the San Antonio Museum of Art, which has the largest collection of Greek, Egyptian and Roman art in the South US. Hit the art nouveau Guenther House Restaurant, within the complex of the iconic working Pioneer Flour Mills, for Pioneer buttermilk biscuits and country gravy. Wander around the Blue Star Arts Contemporary Arts Museum nearby, before pausing for a latte at Halcyon café – a great place to come back with your laptop to join other students for an all-day study session.
When night falls, head to the beautiful River Walk, where you can dine as lights twinkle on the trees above, hop on a boat to glide down the river, or just wander down the miles of riverside walkways. On warm summer evenings, join one of the weekend Art Walks to see contemporary art and performances or catch live music and film screenings in some of the city’s most buzzing neighborhoods.
