History of the Glasgow Caledonian University

The university’s history dates back to 1875 with the formation of the Glasgow School of Cookery.

In 1878 the West End School of Cookery was established before merging with the Glasgow School of Cookery to form The Glasgow and West of Scotland College of Domestic Science (GWSCDS) in 1908. Over 60 years later in 1975, it became the Queen’s College, Glasgow. 

Glasgow College of Technology was established in 1971 before becoming Glasgow Polytechnic in 1991. Two years later, on April 1, 1993, Glasgow Caledonian University was born with the merger of the Queen’s College and Glasgow Polytechnic.

What are the different types of student rooms you offer?

We offer three different types of student rooms:

Shared Rooms provide a single bedroom that is shared with at least one other person. Other living spaces such as kitchen and bathroom are shared with your roommate as well as other tenants from other rooms.

Private Rooms provide a provide bedroom, and in some properties also a private bathroom. You’ll share other living spaces with other tenants.

Entire Place provides a fully private studio property where you will get your own bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette so you won’t have to share anything with others.

Are bills included in the rent of my flat?

In most of the properties we list in Glasgow, all bills are included in your rent. Different landlords may have different policies though, so check the property page of the property you’re interested in to make sure if this is the case.

Are the flats fully furnished?

This also depends on the property, but most of our listed properties in Glasgow are fully furnished.
